Mountain Lake House
SHADOW LAKE PROJECT
Near the Vermont & New Hampshire border, our Shadow Lake Project sits perched on a hill offering sprawling views of the White Mountains and Connecticut River in nearly every room of the house. The renovation was extensive — nearly 95% of the original house was demo’d — so the homeowners desired new construction with a forward-thinking sustainable design. The building systems focused around energy efficiency and carbon neutral technology, with the goal of Net Zero. The home boasts a 42-panel solar array, geothermal heating, radiant floors, advanced insulation, standing seam roof, and electric vehicle charging stations. On the interior, we aimed to blend clean lines, classic of a modern farmhouse, with the cozy feel of a lake house tucked away in the mountains. We mixed materials & textures, but chose cohesive paint colors throughout much of the home. The overall design centers around polished concrete, warm cedar tones, shiplap walls, well-loved antiques, and my favorite…the custom black metal staircase that leads up to the Library Room.
